Butterfly Portfolio

Photographing butterflies flying in the wild is a challenge especially if you want good, detailed close - up imagery. But in addition to that I aim to immerse the insect in its environment: close - up and landscape combined in the same shot. Only then, I feel, do we capture an impression of what the insect experiences as it journeys through its natural element, the air. Technique however, is only part of the challenge. Even more important is developing an affinity with the insect, through an understanding of its behaviour. That means patience. Not easy. To coin a phrase: some people are born patient, others achieve patience and others have patience thrust upon them. Perforce I belong to the latter category!
